Alexander McQueen S/S 2027 collection

When it was declared that Alexander McQueen was making a return to London Fashion Week, the world of creativity rejoiced. The quintessential British brand often plays homage to the place it calls home and the Spring/Summer 2027 collection is no different.

Seán McGirr was at the helm of the designs, making his first London runaway appearance for the fashion house and it was as magnetic as anyone could have hoped. Talking about the inspiration behind his work, McGirr declared, “this collection is a celebration of London’s ceaselessly stimulating and transcendent power.”

Location wise, McGirr opted for the Lincoln’s Inn Chapel which has been part of London’ architecture for 400 years and made for the perfect gothic yet glamorous atmospheric site.

Steel grey, textured black and pockets of elemental colours such as cobalt blue, pear green and blush pink were the key tones featured throughout the show with every detail from accessories and motif to material and shape playing a key part in making it feel like London.

The strong shoulders and sleek tailoring felt like a nod to Lee Alexander McQueen, who trained on Saville Row before turning his imagination to his own brand. Next to the ruffle skirting, corsetry and sheerness the tailoring and smart trousers felt like classic McQueen; a juxtaposition of anarchy and aristocracy.

Unsurprisingly for many – myself included- the stand out piece was the chainmail-like dress that featured the iconic skull design, first made famous by McQueen back in 1992 during the “Jack the Ripper Stalks His Victims,” showcase.

McQueen’s return to LFW was a triumph, with McGirr making it clear that he is prepared to add his own touch to the much-loved fashion house. The S/S 2027 feels like a collaboration; of the Alexander McQueen we know and the McQueen it is becoming.
