It’s a tale as old as time; you can tell when clothing is designed by a woman and nothing proves that quite like the Spring/Summer 2027 collection from Dreaming Eli, aptly titled Dreamers in Exile.
Italian born Elisa Trombatore, the goddess behind the dreamy designs, started the brand in 2021 declaring that, “[the] collections are meant to demonstrate the power, danger, and beauty of contradiction inherent in femininity.”
Her latest demonstration of femininity and fearlessness accumulate in a bewitching collection of corsets, muted shades, sheerness and lace with a lusciously modern edge.

The show took place at St Bartholomew’s Hospital’s in East London, fitting as the S/S 27 Dreaming Eli plays homage to childhood – or is it the loss of it?
With colors that seems more like a memory than a true shade and the jarring juxtaposition of heavy Ballerina platforms and soft romantic shapes, Dreamers in Exile feels like the loss of innocence transitioning into the reality of adulthood, with the hope of keeping some imagination alive.

Or perhaps it’s less about the disillusionment of the world and what you had hoped when young, and more about holding onto the fantasy as you mature.
It is as though forgotten princesses, soft gothic witches and gentle warriors have seeped from their realm right onto the runaway. The journey reflected on their clothes; rips and tears from the trials and tribulations of moving from one world to another, from child to adult, from fantasy to reality.

The shapes contrast from corsets and layered skirts reminiscent of the Victorian period, to low rise bottoms, crop tops and leg warmers; feeling much more contemporary.
An eerily, starry-eyed collection brimming with dark romance and quirk that I would sell my soul to wear (how fitting, indeed.)
