“She thought that it did not feel like throwing down a shield. It was stepping into sunlight, without armor or steel or clothing. And what a lovely thing, to burn.”
Reap & Sow follows Eda Shaw, and her older bothers Lawrie and Ben, as they struggle to pay back their father’s debt to a demon known as Mr Night. After her brothers are arrested, Eda finds herself turning to another demon, Kit’rath, but if she wants his help, she will have to make a brand new deal and this one might be her last.

Eda is a leading lady like no other; relentless, bold and proud she doesn’t shy away from a challenge and has nearly as much wit as she does bravery. All of the characters in Reap & Sow are interesting to hear from and fun to read about; Robin is warm and witty, Kit is funny and flirty and even the dreaded Florian Fane, is a joy to hate.
With such wonderful characters it’s no surprise that the dialogue is impeccable and will have your laughing out loud or shedding a tear at all the fundamental moments. Plumb also dabbles in classical language and sentence stucture, with some instances feeling reminiscent of Mary Shelley or the Bronte sisters.
As for the romance, it’s a slow burn brimming with all of your favourite tropes. When done well, enemies to lovers is delicious and Plumb nails the transition with scrumptious sultry glares and luscious forbidden touches.
The world created within Reap & Sow is bewitching and sinister, whilst being frighteningly relatable. Even with a realm that features demons, witches and supernatural monsters, the real villain of the story is man.
Reap and Sow is a gloriously gothic romance with heart, humor and heat. Oh, how I wish it was the start of an enthralling trilogy rather than a heart-rendering stand alone.
