This Poison Heart is an inclusive, enchanting and explosive duology brimming with fresh characters and innovative ideas.
Briseis thrives as the protagonist and all of the side characters hold their own. The relationships between mothers and daughter is touching and the essence of family (both blood and found) is a beautiful aspect to the books.
Inclusivity and representation flow effortlessly throughout the books with both Bri and her parents being part of BIPOC and LGBTQ+ community. It adds gravitas to the story and half of the humour relies on the way Bri and her family are able to make light of certain situations.
The romance is subtle and sweet and never disrupts the adventure Briesis and her family find themselves on. Both books have unexpected revelations within the plot, characters and when you think you have it worked out Bayron throws another surprise your way.
It truly is a glorious duology and Bayron has somehow managed to make the world of plants, petals and poisons an extraordinary one, that I never wanted to leave .
