Character wise this series soars, the hilarious Caldon and sarcastic Cresta in particular stand out but the entire supporting cast are top tier.
Kiva thrives as the MC. Bold yet anxious; she often speaks without thinking and is equal parts funny and smart.

The romance is sweet and soft and although the miscommunication trope slides in, the surrounding story is enchanting enough to bypass the frustration.
Noni is a master when it comes to world building and the arcane aspect is simple but effective. Elemental magic may have been seen before but with the captivating way Noni writes it might as well be a brand new concept.
With enough unexpected twists and exciting revelations to have your aghast, The Prison Healer is a strong start but the trilogy truly comes into own with The Gilded Cage and ends on a high with The Blood Traitor.
A new saga in the world of fantasy, The Prison Healer has everything you could be after for YA fiction. Mark my words this series will become a cult classic in time.
