She could picture him flashing those deceptive dimples as he tricked an Angel into losing its wings just so he could play with the feathers.”

🍎Spoilers from the Caraval series🍎

When Evangeline Fox’s first love ends up engaged to another, Evangeline decides to make a deal with the dangerous and dashing Fate, Jacks, also known as The Prince of Hearts.
But making a deal with Jacks always comes at a price and Evangeline must be willing to pay it all.

🦊🍎👑🧜🏻‍♀️

As always Garbers writing is magical and enchanting in every aspect. The world building is flawless and the new kingdom we meet is brimming with the most whimsical of wonders you could only ever dream of.

Evangeline Fox is an enjoyable lead but she misses the intrigue and charm from our original Dragna sisters.
The star of the show is everyone’s favourite Fate whose own heartbreak and history is the most inviting mystery of all.
The shortcomings are few but come from the chemistry between Jacks and Evangeline; it isn’t as sparkling as it could be however this is only the first book so perhaps it will evolve.

The myths around prophecies, blood magic and curses is certainly an enticing concept and lends itself to an eerie and mysterious plot. There is often an underlying darkness bubbling beneath the light hearted realm of Garbers work and more so in Once Upon a Broken Heart than her previous trilogy.

A playful start to a potentially magical series, Once Upon a Broken Heart will lure you in like our very own Prince of Hearts; let’s hope it doesn’t let us down just like we all know he would

🍎For fans of The Night Circus and City of Masks🍎
