It’s Nottingham 1906 and ballet dancer Marietta has parents who are all too keen to dismiss her talent and hand her over to the richest suitor. When a dashing inventor moves in next door Marietta is the only one who doubts his intentions. As Marietta confronts Drosselmeier she finds herself transported to a snow forest where nothing is at it seems.

Midnight in Everwood is a magical delight brimming with whimsical imagery and enchanting characters. The story is heavy on descriptions but they’re so deliciously inviting and create the most scrumptious of visions you don’t even mind.
The friendship that forms between Marietta, Dellara and Pirlipata is a pleasant surprise and the sprinkling of feminism works splendidly. The romance wasn’t on par with the sisterhood element of Midnight in Everwood but it was sweet enough.
What’s so wonderful about the book is that it understands it’s focus is bringing some festive fun into a short sweet story. The world building is simple but effective and the characters all do well to play their part.
A delicious little pick for the holiday season and suitable for most ages.
