Emilia is an oxymoron of a lead and at times this works wonderfully as it makes her relatable. She is feisty yet insecure with a caring nature but a spiteful streak.
Wrath is a swoon-worthy love interest and is not only the prince of rage but also the king of secrets and smouldering.
The visuals throughout Kingdom of the Cursed are strong and as in Kingdom of the Wicked the concept around the seven deadly sins is done marvellously – so much so it’s a surprise it hasn’t been tackled before.
Meeting the sinful Princes is exhilarating and Emilia’s commentary of the different courts and castles is truly fascinating.
For some the world building and heavy descriptions is too much but for me it’s a strength to the series.
The romance is sincere and the moments of intimacy feel genuine but the smutty moments seem more awkward than seductive. That being said the ‘Enemies to Lovers’ trope is a blinding success; it is just the spice that needs some work.
The overarching story is an intriguing one and though some twists were predictable other smaller reveals had me reeling.
The new characters introduced aren’t just fun additions but do a great deal to help the plot along.
Emilia’s magic needs more attention and her true witchy nature deserves more of the limelight but we are only on book two.
A captivating sequel that trumps the first; Maniscalco has expanded the world of the Wicked with style and is well on her way to Queen of Darkness territory.
