Rae has always been fascinated by the occult, so much so that she has spent years researching and exploring the warped world of the supernatural. When she heads back to her hometown, Abelaum, she finds herself drawn to the enigmatic Leon.
Leon is a demon, known amongst magicians as The Killer, but when he is instructed to capture Rae he finds himself at odds with doing what he’s been tasked to and making Rae his very own plaything.

Rae is a likeable lead; loves her cat, obsessed with anything horror and stubborn to a fault. At times her decisions were infuriating but in some ways this made her more relatable.
Leon is written proof that dark haired men don’t always do it better. The fair haired, golden-eyed demon is a proud, protective and devastatingly kinky.
The spice is next level; hot, unpredictable and will make even the boldest of people blush yet at the same time there truly was something rather touching about it – no pun intended. Rae finds herself experimenting and, more importantly, enjoying sexual situations and fetishises she had never before encountered.
As far as side characters go, Zane was a deliciously fine addition to the novel, with Cheesecake the cat an extremely close second.
The dual point of view is always a hit within dark romance and works both as a plot device and to shift the story along.
As much as Her Soul to Take is full of sex, smut and all that in between the horror element of it is a glorious theme. The gothic imagery Laroux created is wonderfully eerie and Abelaum is the perfect small town haunt that you can imagine being home to cults and creeps.
Her Soul to Take is most certainly not for the weak of heart but if you like your romance dark and twisted with just a little sweetness, Leon and Rae will have your heart racing within the first few pages.
