A Court of Silver Flames by Sarah J Maas
“But I still don’t know how to fix myself,” – Nesta Archeron
A Court of Silver flames is an honest, heart wrenching and often humorous novel that tackles depression, abuse and severe grief in a world of fantasy and Fae.
From the inner turmoil of our two protagonists to the far raunchier passages A Court of Silver Flames is written with such sincerity it feels like you’re listening to a friend. Nobody writes female characters – POV, relationships or friendships – quite like SJM and this explicit novel is filled to the brim with love that rings true.
The confrontation of mental health is prevalent and handled in such a relatable, powerful way that at times it was hard to read. Just like mental health is sometimes hard to cope with.
Action, romance and new characters are aplenty and all this builds a support system for our lead to battle with as she heads on her own journey.
Of course the magical realm of Prythian is still the enchanting backdrop and with warriors, high lords and villains vying for power the fantasy element is still there. It’s just that this story isn’t about Prythian; it’s about Nesta Archeron. And that, my friends, is a story worth telling.
